"There’s a precise moment during Invisible Violence, the latest album from local lupine electro-lovers We Are Wolves, that signals a surprising and welcome evolution beyond their typically reliable barrage of krautrock and dance punk. At 3:25 into “Walking Commotion,” the album’s third track, an acoustic guitar and string section grace what, up until that point, was a recognizably thumping We Are Wolves tune blending aggressive synths and shouted vocals.

It’s atypical of their previous work, yet feels completely logical given the band’s development following their 2007 sophomore breakthrough, Total Magique. (...) [They] credit co-producer Radwan Ghazi Moumneh with pushing the band to embrace new sonic textures, resulting in a third album with considerable nuance—an important development given the energetic and brutish dance rock the group had been known for previously. Recording under fewer time constraints over two months this summer, as opposed to "Total Magique"’s inconsistent schedule, might have also given them more leeway to refresh their sound on "Invisible Violence". "Blood Red Shoes are Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell. They are a rock band from Brighton, UK. They know there is a power and intensity in simplicity. And they have a new album. It’s called ‘Fire Like This’.

‘Fire Like This’ is both a progression and a paring down, a record that sees Blood Red Shoes – vocalist/guitarist Laura-Mary Carter and vocalist/drummer Steven Ansell – getting back to their DIY/punk roots. “We started the band in 2005, and a lot of stuff started to happen,” recalls Laura-Mary. “The band started taking off, and we got a bit carried away. So much stuff gets thrown at you, and you just do it, you don’t have time to think about it. But we’ve learnt that isn’t always what you want. We don’t want people telling us what to wear. We don’t want to do that crap video. We’re in control again. And I can tell you, right now is the most happy I’ve been about anything to do with this band." V2

"Brooklyn's greatest natural resources are rats, crime and dirt. Out of this ugly and overpriced ex-industrial vermin ranch has risen a band that are so loud and full of life that they not only make it bearable but they almost make the squalor seem charming and full of possibility. You go to a Golden Triangle show and it's like being welcomed into a clubhouse full of drunken carousing; good feeling permeates what was before merely a room with booze and a stage.

Golden Triangle is a band of three girls and three boys who play music that's loud, spooky, and will make you aroused and ambitious when you experience it live. I guess they're psychedelic or garage or something. Maybe post punks? They have two singing ladies who sound like soulful ghosts. In general the music is like being in a fun haunted house and the ghosts are cool but you never totally relax because, I mean, they're supernatural beings". Hardly Art

Lost Rockers is the new film from Paul Rachman and Steven Blush, makers of the American Harcore punk rock documentary that premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and was theatrically released by Sony Pictures Classics.

Lost Rockers reveals great musicians overlooked by pop culture. It offers insight into what it takes to “make it,” and why so many of equal talent to famous stars fall through the cracks. The film tells the life stories of these forgotten artists — of different eras, genres, creeds and orientations — from their doomed paths to fame to their ultimate redemption. You’ll experience amazing music you can’t believe you never heard.

Lost Rockers has only just begun. We’ve shot our first four interviews (Gloria Jones, Jake Holmes, David Peel and Dr. israel) with many more to come, including famous rock stars commenting on their lesser-known contemporaries. Completing our research and moving into the post-production phase will require travel across the US, UK and Europe. Your contributions will help put us on this path.

"We are very happy to present to you the fourth album, "...And Then We Saw Land", by the British collective Tunng. Crafting a unique blend of rustic acoustic based folk, kitchen sink experimentalism, delicate electronics, and pop melodies that don't let go, Tunng weaves these parts into a seamless whole that's anchored by sweet male/female vocal harmonies.

Since last we saw them, the band have been on adventures both personal (Mike went to India, Ashley moved to Somerset) and shared – such as their ten-day voyage of discovery with Malian desert bluesmen Tinariwen, a unique collaboration that aimed to fuse the sounds of the two bands together. An experience that helped shape Tunng‘s approach to the new album “We learned that you don’t always need structure! As long as there is presence, emotion and groove. It taught us that everything is open and adaptable...” Thrill Jockey

Antony Gormley was born in London in 1950. After schooling at Ampleforth College, Yorkshire, he went on to complete a degree in Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Art at Trinity College, Cambridge, between the years of 1968-71. Following his graduation, Gormley travelled to India and Sri Lanka to study Buddhism for three years. On his return to London, in 1974, he attended Central School of Art and Goldsmith's College before completing a postgraduate course in sculpture at Slade School of Art between 1977 and 1979.

Gormley's work has revivified the way in which the human form is appropriated. Frequently using his own body as the subject of his work, Gormley's innovative use of the body, as a vessel for memory and transformation, explores the collective body and the relationship between self and other. His investigation into the human condition has been realised in highly acclaimed large-scale installations such as Critical Mass (1995), Allotment (1997), Inside Australia (2002), Domain Field (2003), Another Place (2005), and Blind Light (2007). International Women's Day , Ladies Night

08/03/2009

Women are coragous and brave , they give birth to us , they are our Mothers , still for some reasons all the time we hear how they are continuasly abused , beaten up by their lovely companions .
To be honest i abstein myself from watching the news on the tv becasuse of the amoung of ideous and devilish things you ear about the way women are treated.
Its a cruel being women in this world , its an desadvantage that they are born with , im sure that they will have a bigger satisfaciton when the overcome all those obstacles and become succefull against the man fist.

For all women out there who are depraved of their rights and needs

A recent large-scale project by the photographer named JR has focused attention on women - relatives of victims of violence - by displaying their large portraits in one of Rio de Janeiro's hardest hit neighborhoods. Though Rio is blessed with natural beauty and climate, it still struggles with large disparities between rich and poor, and many of the six million residents reside in hillside slums called favelas.

It was about a year ago that JR first told us about his “Women are Heroes" project, a collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières.

Taking his trusty 28 millimeter lens, for the last year JR has been traveling to such countries as Sierra Leone, Liberia, Southern Sudan and Kenya, documenting the lives of a group of incredibly courageous women.

Now, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the full documentation of the Women Are Heroes project is being launched on the web. And not surprisingly, the work is absolutely breathtaking.

This past Saturday, the faces of eight women were placed on walls across Brussels, where they will remain for a month. for more info visit - Women are Heroes

Perhaps one of the most reviled yet misunderstood of all the youth subcultures, the skinhead look originated back in the 60s as a simple fashion statement. Sartorially proud of their working class roots, the original skinhead was a multi-cultural, politically broad-minded and fashion-aware individual. Favourite music was reggae, soul and ska and key artists included Desmond Dekker, Max Romeo and The Pyramids. Their choice of immaculate clothing and invariably Dr Martens boots was the ultimate anti-fashion statement and a badge of both power and pride. Above all else, genuine skinheads were obsessed with their presentation
The 70s saw the look adopted by the scurge of right-wing extremists and for many years was fashion pariah. However, towards the end of the 90s, the closely cropped look has been championed by a whole new generation of high profile celebrities, including David Beckham and Ewan McGregor, bringing skinhead style back into the mainstream once again.

Gavin Watson’s critically acclaimed photography of late 70s skinheads perfectly captures a snapshot of this unique youth culture. The scores of black and white shots offer a fascinating glimpse into a skinhead community that was multi-cultural, tightly knit and above all else, fiercely proud of their look. These are classic photographs of historical value.

Skins is now proudly reprinted on Independent Music Press, complete with over 30 new and previously unpublished photographs.
