My Modern Met

This mini-series takes an in-depth look at the lives and times of the unique people who spent exclusive time with Andy Warhol and worked at the Factory during the silver sixties, making it all click as a new counter-culture arose and began to exert its influence throughout the arts scene in New York. Features never before seen footage and intimate interviews with the Warhol “stars” who knew Andy best, including Billy Name, Ultra Violet, Gerard Malanga and Taylor Mead.

A poly-rhythmic paradise of liquid harmonics to be poured into the ears. jahcoozi's music is as original as the phonetic imagination of their name.

those behind this creative alliance are song-writer /mc/singer/stage-animal sasha perera (london/sri lanka), beat-freak producer robot koch (germany) and the bass-embodying sound-tech fetishist oren gerlitz (tel aviv, israel). both musically and culturally speaking, jahcoozi are a mash up operation who have consistently managed to deliver their very own mongrel style of electronic pop music.

the band have just finished off their 3rd album which will come out on 19th april 2010 on ellen alien's berlin label bpitch control. Bpitch

An entertaining and cheeky music video for “70 Million”, hit song by Franco-American band, Hold Your Horses!, offers a wink at art history as band members playfully reconstruct famous paintings in an off the wall lyrical interpretation all their own. Produced by L'Ogre.

Think your daily Starbucks run isn’t having an effect on the planet? Think again. In just one year alone, over 58 billion disposable coffee cups are tossed into landfills.

To address the problem of disposable coffee cups, the betacup challenge was founded in 2009 as a way to encourage innovators to brainstorm creative solutions for the environment.

This year, betacup is offering a contest to design the best sustainable coffee cup. The contest is open to the public and the winner will receive a $10,000 prize. Causecast

It's been a full year since Will Oldham was in Rock Island for this encore taping. It was St. Patrick's Day circa 2009. There was a parade happening nearby, with all kinds of non-Irish folk wearing green hats covered with sparkly glitter and shamrocks. It was relatively warm, under a sunny sky and we had burritos and specially ordered coffees and teas waiting for the Bonnie Prince Billy and his band. Oldham had been here about three years prior to this visit and to this day, we are still eternally grateful for his generosity and the kind words he's spoken to others about what Daytrotter is. He was here and gave us a shot when we were nothing and we couldn't be more honored than to have had this modern master as a repeat offender.

From 1 to 5 April 2009, the theme of the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam will be Minimal Music from the sixties. Besides performances of works by well-known composers of the genre, such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass, there will be an investigation into the origins of Minimal Music and its musical similarities to and influence on today’s music.

An important place in the festival is given to the Ugandan Buganda Music Ensemble. This group will be a guest for a whole week, and they will be building some original akadindas (giant xylophones for four players), giving workshops and performing traditional music. Akadinda music, with its repetitive and interwoven patterns, shows clear similarities to the work of Minimal Music composers.

Back in 2007 I floated the idea of Interesting Sounds, people kindly expressed interest, but I never got round to doing anything about it. Then at the end of last year the good people of the Arnolfini in Bristol said they'd like to do an Interesting thing, and we realised that it would be a good place to do Interesting Sounds. So that's what we're going to do.

THE BASIC POINT is for people to show and talk about Interesting Sound-producing things they've made. Not just to perform with their 'thing' but to talk about what they've made, why they did it, what's interesting about it. It could be acoustic, electronic, anything. The principles of Interesting will apply - short talks, no frills, lots of clapping. As we're keeping people to 10 minutes then we're not going to insist on live demos (that will involve too much setting/tuning up). You can demo your thing live if you like, but you'll only get 10 minutes or so on stage and not much more for setting up, so if you want to make a video or audio or whatever that'll be great. Does that make sense?

Ellen Allien , Live @ Club 11 Amsterdam

As a DJ I have always tried to connect genres, styles and audiences. I want to feed people new music and capture their interest. I want to fill the room with sound. And I have always been searching for an acceptance of what exists. We all live in the here and now! And it was that common thread that I wanted to share with the audience. When I DJ, body and music become one, they become brainy. To me, music was always the only way to soar through epic parallel worlds, to relax, to experience excess, to find myself. Music is both my motor and my outlet.
As a producer, music is a playback of my emotions and moods. I tease them out of me with alternating technical devices. Music becomes a chronicle, each album is a work from a period of my life, which grounds me after the stress of DJ-jetting. Albums are like diaries. With my first album “Stadtkind” I wanted to express my close relationship with the city I live in. It was like an explosion. “Stadtkind” is my homage to Berlin. The testing, work and experimentation with the structures and the sound spectrum of electronic music then became more and more crucial for me. I used my various compilations and remixes to beam myself into the musical cosmos. With my next album “Berlinette” I processed what I had experienced after the release of “Stadtkind”. It was like a flash of lightning, I was everywhere and everyone around me was euphoric and supportive. “Berlinette” illustrates all that and it is also my very personal discourse on what is possible in the world of pop music and abstract sounds. Then I released my third album “Thrills”. It moves back and forth between constant excitement and playing the ARP 2600 and other analogue instruments.Ellen Allien
