Three masters of the electronic medium; Francisco Lopez, John Wall and John Oswald will create new work in collaboration with the ensemble. Each of their work is characterised by a distinctive style, and a unique approach to sound. The fact that these composers work largely in a medium outside traditional notated music makes this project particularly interesting. The extreme techniques used by these composers in their electronic work will be transformed into the acoustic sound of the ensemble.

Whoever has experienced the concerts of Spanish composer Francisco Lopez, knows that he has a preference for blindfolding the audience in order to experience his subsonic sound world on a more primary level. Over the last twenty five years he has developed an astonishing sonic universe, absolutely personal and iconoclastic, based on a profound listening of the world.

The British sample-composer John Wall makes collages from rock, jazz and classical music, where the source of the material is barely recognisable. Rather than focusing on the frantic juxtaposition of different sources, he fuses the snippets into organic flows of real music. The starting point for the collaboration with Ensemble MAE will be the work ‘Fractuur', which will be transformed and reworked into the colours of the ensemble through use of live electronics.

John Oswald is famous for his ‘Plunderphonics’, collages made entirely from other music, such as Michael Jackson, Elvis or Bruce Springsteen. He nearly always incorporates an electroacoustic element to his productions, focusing on metamorphosis and eclecticism realised from existing materials

Brent Arnold (Brooklyn, NY, United States) , violoncelliste , composer & singer.
My music is experimental songs using amplified cello, voice, and effects (loops, distortion, etc). I incorporate sonic exploration, American & European folksong, improvisation, rock, South Asian and Middle Eastern melody, electronics, European classical, and more. My solo show has been compared to Imogen Heap, Andrew Bird, and Final Fantasy... but very original. More information is below.

Ane Brun @ Daytrotter

In the entire canon of popular music’s many different forms of love songs, the best ones tend to come from the point of view of someone who just can’t make any fucking sense about why it went wrong. But, to be clear, this doesn’t include the songs that can sound ill-tempered or by someone holding a major gripe, someone unable to not feel completely and hopelessly wronged to a disturbing end. It’s the category that is filled by songs that still feel like the love that came before the fallout, of the time and the place where it all began, without malice and sullenness ever being a glimmer in either party’s flaming eyes. These remain as the tender declarations that they could have been in the middle of all the new romance, when time seemed to stand still and rush by like a dragster all at once. It’s the kind of spell that the blood gets put on it during this swooning process, where it’s hot and flooded with all of these odd new endorphins that take over the senses, start running the show and before anyone knows it, the plug’s been pulled and the comedown has already begun – and it’s in that moment of ill-configuration when these songs of loss and unabashed reflection are at their apex, when they are able to just get it all out there in an unprocessed, unedited plume.

" The Uperside of the Down Syndrome "

From Today till 21 June , a selection of the 101 pictures taken from the book De Upside van Down of Dutch photographer , Eva Snoijink , will be in exhibit near the Stopera in Amsterdam.

" I made a book with a 101 portraits of children with Down syndrome, the photographs are accompanied by short texts written by the parents of these children.
By showing the pure innocence of the children I want to highlight the positive aspects of Down. In that way I’d like to invite future parents to think about what taking the test means, and help them make concious decisions about the possible results. With my photographs I’d like to make people think about love, about life, and about making the choices that shape our lives."

The seventh Kitsuné Maison compilation, the lucky one.

Kitsuné gets more and more professional, but stays as fresh and passionate as ever. With a constantly expanding network and always more news, discoveries, talents soon to blow-up, hopes, love, happiness and he-do-nism.

The Maison is not so much a withdrawal, but more of a welcoming space, open to all winds. There are newcomers but also loyalty, some artists are now firmly part of, not just the maison, but the Kitsuné family. Lately the bands from the Kitsuné Maison compilations have also started to play some collective shows together: Kitsuné En Vrai! (Kitsuné For Real!).

The Kitsuné sieve keeps on searching for gold and inevitably some mornings the discoveries put you in a good mood. So here’s already the seventh compilation, the one that strikes lucky.

“Kitsuné Maison 7” will be released June 9, 2009 on Kitsune.

Swarm is one of eight interactive works selected for Re-ACT / Interactive Light Art – an exposition of art installations and objects, all with some form of built in interaction. In our case the position of people under the installation is used to attract a swarm of coloured light which travels through the sculpture. When no-one is engaged in direct playful interaction with the piece, it will start displaying its own decorative behaviour.

For the design of Swarm we made use of Blender and some custom built tools to generate the six meter wide swarm-like shape consisting of almost 500 elements. The control software was created in openFrameworks and uses flocking algorithms and computer vision to let the audience influence the light animations which fly through the sculpture.

" My mind is like a filter constantly translating the world around me. Everything catches my eye: bright orange traffic cones meandering between the street and the sidewalk; an enormous building sheathed in black mesh from top to bottom; duct tape adhering a handwritten sign to a newly polished subway tiled wall. These are all urban works in progress, part of the transitory, the ephemeral, and the makeshift. These are the environments we inhabit everyday . When experiencing my work I want the viewer to become aware of their own body, their own frailty and strength. I also want them to become sensitive to their desire to touch the work. At times the act of viewing itself becomes physically awkward or like a strange dance. " Diana Cooper

James Murphy and Pat Mahoney delve into their New York roots for FABRICLIVE 36, a hot sweaty blend of seminal disco, deep rare grooves and edgy tech-infused funk from influential artists such as Donald Byrd & 125th St, Chic, Lenny Williams, Junior Byron and Love of Life Orchestra. A delightful nod to their future, past and present (including LCD Soundsystem's own "Hippe Priest Bumout"), this mix is unashamed hand-clapping fun, full of upfront rhythms, obscure treats and heart warming guilty pleasures. fabriclondon

“We're pretty excited. We find doing mix CDs horrifying to a certain degree because there's nobody there, so it's just like, "What are we doing?!" It's like you're just yelling into the air. We bought an old Bozak for this - the first DJ mixer ever built, hand-built. It sounds incredible. Everything sounds nicer and bigger and smoother and beautiful. The mix itself will have a little bit of stuff that isn't necessarily what we'd play in a club. But we'd like it to be fun. So we'll just do it a bunch of times live. Do it until you like it, that's actually our motto.” - James Murphy & Pat Mahoney .

Top Get Physical producers Booka Shade are the unlikely choice for the latest volume in the 'DJ Kicks' series, out in October.

Are Booka Shade DJs? Well, not really. But that little fact doesn't phase !K7, who in the past have invited such non-DJs as Trüby Trio, Erlend Øye and Annie behind the decks for their 'DJ Kicks' series. As the PR puts it: "Booka Shade have an intimate knowledge of the dancefloor and the differing tools required in a DJ's arsenal, but Jeff Mills or Richie Hawtin…they are not."

But the lack of a DJ resume isn't going to stop Booka, who promise something a little different from the run of the mill DJ mix in their first foray into the format. "DJ-Kicks is the perfect project for us," says Arno Kammermeier. "It allows us to do our own thing. It allows us to make a musical statement. And that was what was appealing to us. People don't see us as hot DJs, so this isn't a snapshot of summer 2007, it's about creating something that will last."

Rather than documenting their the latest club tunes, Booka Shade mix up older gems with unreleased newies on a CD which promises to be eclectic. Amid dance music from Carl Craig, Matthew Dear and Lopazz, Booka Shade find room for French disco (Cerrone), rap (The Streets), '70s soundtracks (John Carpenter), '80s electro-pop (Heaven 17, Yazoo) and even the downright odd (Brigitte Bardot, The Tubes). "We really got into the material that we were using," explains Walter Merziger, "Putting it together was like creating a remix."

Many of the cuts are mixed together using Booka Shade rhythm tracks, while the mix also contains two Booka exclusives, 'Numbers' ("The mix inspired us to write a song with vocals. It's the first time we've had real vocals on a Booka Shade track") and 'Estoril'. "We came at it from a producer's background," Walter explains. "It wasn't just about choosing tracks that blended rhythmically, but we were interested in the harmony as well. The transition of the mixes had to be harmonically correct too. That's why there's lots of layers in there." residentadvisor

Latest mix on Kitsuné comes from club night of choice for London hipsters: BoomBox. 'Kitsuné BoomBox' arrives at the end of the month.

This is truly a collaboration of the hippest. BoomBox is the dressed-up East End party where ravers share water bottles with the likes of Naomi Campbell, and fashion-forward French label Kitsuné puts out clothing lines as well as records.

‘Kitsuné BoomBox’, mixed by resident Jerry 'JBAG' Bouthier, includes tried-and-tested maximal party-starters from Riot In Belgium and Digitalism, new material from live electro band Big Face and the junior Justice, Revolte, as well as the exclusive comeback of original acid popsters S-Express. With tracks from Daft Punk and Chromeo, and remixes from Guns 'n' Bombs and Van She, it looks set to be the soundtrack to a thousand future fashion shows. Darling. residentadvisor

This is a rich and layered new work from Prefuse 73. The album is a mix psychedelic hip hop music. a well honed work which is just stunning for headphone listening, like a dense musical puzzle, crossing genres but always harnessed back in by the rhythms of hip hop.

The album on cd also contains a bonus album called 'Interregnums' which is made up of orchestral work and the arrangements that make up the preparations album. It's a kind of shadow album that reveals part of the dense makeup and skill of Preparations. A copy of the orchestral album also comes with the double vinyl too.
