Ty Segall @ London Calling 21 May Paradiso Amsterdam

It was my first live Ty Segall experience and i had mega expectations about it, just next door was playing Twin Shadow but i was so hyped that i couldn't wait and went to watch Ty's check sound cause Twin Shadow was ok but i needed more.

I heard before all about the noise brutality and hectiness from the San Francisco garage fuzzer shows, even before the beginning the small room from Paradiso was full of excitement that grow while Ty and team warm up with the first accords.

After the lift off signal was like a really fast tsunami that swept everybody that was in the room and it was loud, fun with loads of banging, raw electrifing riffs and explosive vocals, to bad that was so short and the room to freaking warm that i almost wondered if paradiso havent heard about air condiciones before ... moral of the story "Out of This World and the ultimate Garage Rocker".

After the concert i wanted to talk with Ty but the Paradise bouncers didn't let me pass cause i didn't have a press pass but with some luck and persistence a manage to tell Ty about my small time blog and he came for a chat with a lot of fans ... let me tell you super swell and friendly guy and nothing of stardust of vanity, a true garage rocker and after i manage after being a bit of pain to get the band together for a family photo ... my wishes are that soon Ty come back to Amsterdam but for another venue more proper for these type of sound and not the small paradiso room and with some decent bands to open for him as well.

‘Polyamour’ is the debut album from Austrian electronic music starlet, Clara Moto; it’s a lush, emotive and startlingly mature body of work from a supremely talented young artist/producer and a superb addition the catalogue of Agoria’s much hailed Infine label.

Clara Moto (christened Clara Prettenhofer) was born in the pretty village of Graz, where she developed a love of music through playing the many instruments in her family home before finding a passion for DJing. This passion took her from sets at her local student bar to gigs at Vienna’s Elevate and Springs Festivals and onwards to Melbourne, Sonar in Barcelona and the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada. During this global journey Clara met up with an enthusiastic French DJ going by the name of Agoria, he showed an obvious passion for nurturing fresh talent on his Infine label and instantly saw the potential in Clara’s fledgling productions.Infine

With just one spot of red paint between the eyes the Parisian artist ZEVS, executes the advertising industry's images of perfect humans. 'People don't think about the force of advertising,' says Zevs and continues, 'But with just one psst I remove the force. No one wants to be identified with a dead person so advertising looses its effect'. ZEVS calls his action 'Visual Attack', and he has executed billboards worth millions around Paris. At the same time, ZEVS is a respected artist who exhibits all around the world. "Inside Outside" follows ZEVS and other so-called street artists from New York, Stockholm, Copenhagen and São Paulo. They all make a living off their art, but they also have an urge to exhibit their work illegally in the streets

The thirteenth Sonic Acts Festival in Amsterdam is entirely dedicated to the exploration of space in performative and audiovisual art, film, music and architecture. Sonic Acts XIII - The Poetics of Space examines the importance of physical space in times of far-reaching technological developments, and the physical and psychological impact of spatial designs.

Researching spatiality in the arts forms the core of the festival. How is space defined by a work of art? What does a viewer or listener experience? How do technological artworks deal with the visual, auditory and psychological aspects of spatiality? How has the relationship between technology, space and architecture developed over the past few centuries? How have technological developments influenced our perception and representation of space, and how do we relate to the space that surrounds us?

The programme comprises an overview of recent works and experiments - spatial audio compositions and audiovisual installations - and includes relevant historical examples and utopian ideals and dreams of the 20th century.

Concerts / Performances / Films

Koch and Yutaka Makino.

5 days off started in 2001 as a spin-off of the 10 days off festival in Ghent, Belgium and was the first multiple day indoor dance event in Holland. The last few years the festival offered a more and more various line-up, and was hereby able to show a high quality overview of the international electronic music of these days. By doing this, 5 days off build a strong reputation for itself, in Holland, but also beyond the borders. Besides music, there's an increasing amount of attention for media art in the last couple of years. 5 days off grew from being a small festival in the Amsterdam Melkweg (aka Milkyway) to a genuine cityfestival which nowadays includes locations such as Melkweg, Paradiso and the Netherlands Media Art Institute (NIMk).

Imagine

From April 16 to 25, the festival will see its 25th edition. An anniversary therefore, but that is not the reason we gave the AFFF a new label. So why is there a new name?

* Because the term 'fantastic' is too often confused with the more limited term 'fantasy'.
* Because we think that IMAGINE: not only sounds better, but also implies an invitation to the audience: 'Just imagine that...'
* But above all, because IMAGINE: explicitly emphasizes the adventurous, free-thinking direction of the festival, much more so than the old name.

The genres in which the festival traditionally specializes, fantasy, horror and science-fiction, lost their strict definitions a long time ago. More and more it's the margins of the film industry, where creators allow themselves larger amounts of artistic freedom, that the festival picks its selections from. Films that don't try to cater to a specific target audience by colouring neatly within the lines of 'their genre', but present themselves to the viewer on their own terms. Films that have one question to their viewers in common: 'Just imagine that...' And then they go on to tell their own story their own way, regardless of the genre or mixture of genres.

The 26th edition of Art Amsterdam will be held in the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam from 26 to 30 May 2010. Art Amsterdam is the oldest and largest exhibition of contemporary and modern art in the Netherlands. Over 130 leading galleries from the Netherlands, Europe, the United States, Africa and Asia will be present. The exhibits range from photographs, paintings and video art to sculptures, drawings and installations.

The 8th edition of SAIL 2010 will take place from 19 to 23 August 2010. For five days long, the Amsterdam IJ harbour will serve as the backdrop for a festive programme full of music, culture and nautical riches. Preparations are in full swing and the event promises once again to be an unparalled nautical spectacle which includes:

SAIL Amsterdam is the largest event in the Netherlands which is free to the public. In 2005 the event drew 1.8 million visitors, who gave SAIL Amsterdam 2005 high marks. SAIL Amsterdam 2010 will take place from Thursday 19 August to Monday 23 August 2010 on and around the IJ river.

SAIL's main attraction will be the impressive fleet of Tall Ships, sailing heritage craft, modern ships, naval ships and replicas. In addition to this, every day there will be a varying programme of all kinds of cultural and sports activities. The theme of SAIL 2010 is "a nautical encounter between the past, present and future".

The idea behind SAIL Amsterdam originated during preparations for the celebration of Amsterdam's 700 years of existence in 1975. After the huge success of SAIL Amsterdam 700, organisers decided to hold another SAIL Amsterdam in 1980. In order to effectively manage the organisation, the permanent SAIL Amsterdam Foundation (SSA) was established in 1977. Since then, the SSA has successfully organised SAIL Amsterdam in 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005 and is now focussing on the 8th edition of the event.

Third Amsterdam Cello Biennal
5 - 13 November 2010 , Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ

After two succesfull editions in 2006 and 2008 - with 14000 and 20000 visitors - we are looking forward to the third Amsterdam Cello Biennial.

The preparations for the 2010 edition are of course already in full swing. Bach & Breakfast will remain the core of the programming, as well as the Masterclasses and the Conversations with Anner Bijlsma.
Anyone who witnessed 140 young and very young cellists occupying the stage during the second Biennal, forming the Mega Children's Cello Orchestra, will understand immediately that young musicians will again be a main focus of the festival in 2010.

And what will be new and different is the special focus on cello ensembles and the connection between the cello and the visual arts. to wet your appetite for november 2010.

Junior Boys Dj Set @ Paradiso

Junior Boys dj Set @ Paradiso
Amsterdam 10 October - 24H00

Junior Boys defy any easy equation of pop or dance, joining a long tradition of sonically rich pop that unites emotionally charged songcraft with experimental genres (eg - New Order, Beach Boys). Just as Luomo redefined house, mixing dub, electronica and vocals, this is breaks new ground for electro-pop, blending heart felt vocals with a production style that owes a debt to artists as varied as Timbaland, Todd Edwards, Fennesz and the Basic Channel school. In short, it reflects early 80s pop history back through the styles of contemporary dance. They formed somewhere around 1999 in Hamilton, Canada, the same town that brought us Manitoba and Kieran '4Tet' Hebden’s text label.

" Body Language Six " - Get Physical - 2008
Electro / House

A most agreeable mix from Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus, finding them stretching beyond the cosy confines of their electronic pop universe, setting foot firmly in club land. On the heels of M.A.N.D.Y. and Chateau Flight the duo deliver a selection of mostly contemporary tracks from artists like Supermayer, Kelley Polar, Chloe and Matthew Dear. As is the law nowadays, the mix begins with some advanced disco revisions, on this occasion from Prins Thomas, who remixes Sorcerer's 'Surfing At Midnight', a lightly funky guitar and synth jam which sets things off trepidatiously, setting a course for a slow linear build-up that finally swells into a solid electropop thump by the time we reach DJ Hell's remix of Chelonis R. Jones' 'Deer In The Headlights'. After some synth-heavy workouts from Kelley Polar ('Rosenband' as remixed by Magic Tim) and Steadycam ('In The Moog For Love') Radio Slave's 'Screaming Hands' (as remixed by Cosmo Vitelli) reveals itself as an outright mid-set highlight, with a sophisticated spacious mix. The disc's final quarter gets under way with an exclusive new Junior Boys cut, 'No Kinda Man', which takes the duo's pop sensibilities into a slightly darker, more pensive realm than you might ordinarily expect. Great stuff though. Parisian DJ favourite Chloe crops up twice before the end of the mix, first remixing Rework's 'Love Love Love Yeah' into a dark, roomy spook fest, only to be further represented by the lovely, noir-tinged 'Be Kind To Me', lifted from her The Waiting Room LP. A fine selection indeed. Boomkat

Michael J. Schumacher is a composer, performer and installation artist based in New York City.

He works predominantly with electronic and digital media, specializing in computer generated sound environments which evolve continuously for long time periods. He imbues these self-creating structures with an abundance of sonic material, resulting in forms that flow through a wide range of moods, timbral combinations and textural densities. In their realization, Schumacher uses multiple speaker configurations which relate the sounds of the installation to the architecture of the exhibition space. Architectural and acoustical considerations thereby become basic structural elements.

Schumacher’s sound installations have been heard at Art in General, Apex Art, PS 1, the Queens Museum and The Kitchen and Sculpture Center in New York City, CCNOA in Brussels, the Technical University and Podewil in Berlin, the Museum for Applied Arts in Frankfurt , the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon, Triskel Arts Center in Cork, Ireland, Transmissions Festival in Chicago, SFIFEM in Sante Fe, the Waveform Festival in Sydney, Via 7 Festival in Paris, )toon Festival in Haarlem, and others.

All that shiny, glossy stuff - so large, so speedy, so colorful, so alluring, and so deceitful and unfulfilling. Not just post-Pollock in their computer splatter approach, Yoon Lee paintings also possess a postpop cynicism about advertising imagery and consumer culture even if it isnt immediately apparent or spelled out through helpful text. How do graffiti and urban architecture figure as influences within Lees work? Placed next to each other, are these acrylic polymer and pigment monuments powerful or numbing? Lee's new show, "Verve Syntheses," at the ever great Luggage Store - recently given a deserved deluxe interview profile in ANP Quarterly - should provide some answers. Yoon Lee Selected reviews

Down these mean streets a man must come. A hero born, murdered, and born again.
Adapted from the legendary comic book series created by Will Eisner, "The Spirit" is a classic action-adventure-romance written for the screen and directed by genre-twister Frank Miller (creator of "300" and "Sin City"). It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: he's going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality.
