Gijs Van Lith Paintings

Last week by pure luck while i was going to visit a Art Gallery i bumped into the paintings of Gijs Van Lith (Eindhoven, 1984) solo in the Bart Gallery in Amsterdam.

Just by passing the window i felt immediately drown to the paintings for their sheer size, their simple abstract complexity and almost glitchy presence, its like your looking at a wonderful experimental record visually made of intense drones, noisy feedbacks and abstract but perfect sound waves. simply remarkable !

Erik K Skodvin - Flare (2010)

"'Flare' might be the debut album under his own name, but it is far from Erik K Skodvin’s first musical endeavour. As a member of Deaf Center (along with Otto Totland) he built up a swift following of fans devoted to his precise attention to detail and knack for creating the most unassumingly beautiful tracks of gloomy soundscapes. This clearly wasn’t enough though, as Skodvin dragged his sound into darker pastures, tying to it the Svarte Greiner moniker and allowing his collection of haunted sounds to cough, splutter and groan mercilessly. 'Flare' marks a new beginning for Skodvin, and the electronic processes that have come to define his sound are now all but gone. Untreated acoustic sounds and the blankly terrifying sounds of bare rooms form the backbone of this new approach, and while 'Flare' still bears all the fingerprints of Skodvin’s patented technique, it also sounds fresh and different. At times, as the album slowly reveals itself, one could be forgiven for thinking they had discovered a chewed up cassette of Finnish forest folk- dark and grainy but also live, as if a dark ritual had been captured somewhere remote in the morning fog. Through his selection of instruments, which includes piano, guitar, violin and occasionally voice, Skodvin runs through the recordings with a ghost-like touch. There is the sense that these vignettes already existed, Skodvin merely dusted them off and lit the blue touchpaper"

"Erik Satie et les nouveaux jeunes"

"It was expected that arbouse Recordings label, party over ten years the discovery through the world of music news, come to look to Erik Satie this precursor. As such, Cyril Caucat (label founder) approached Ornella Volta Chair of Archives Erik Satie (Paris). Since 2000 took place between Paris and Rodez an exchange of letters that eventually leads to disc as a tribute to composer. 'Les nouveaux jeunes' from all corners of the world (Chicago, New York Stockholm Berlin, London, Paris ...) will be heard through their music of Erik Satie news .. . Without forget the other side of modernity: its humor seriously. It was actually 'Esoterik' provided that 'Satierik'. Just to play with Satie recordings arbutus appealed to Illegal, a organization dark and full of mockery in the words of a journalist.
"Erik Satie et les nouveaux jeunes" is a disc-shaped tribute to composer Erik Satie (formerly pressure "les nouveaux jeunes" is Erik Satie used for these contemporaries such as Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc (school's of six). Ben Frost and Tim Hecker in Amsterdam 1st of May

Viral Radio 4 Year Anniversary with Ben Frost and Tim Hecker at Bimhuis

"Viral Radio is delighted to present Ben Frost and Tim Hecker at the Bimhuis on 1 May. More information on this event will be announced soon. This event is part of the Viral Radio 4 year anniversary, that will take place at OT301 (19 March), Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ (1 April), Muziekgebouw Eindhoven 2 April) and Bimhuis (1 May)."

"The music of Ben Frost is about contrast; influenced as much by Classical Minimalism as by Punk Rock and Metal, Frost's throbbing guitar-based textures emerge from nothing and slowly coalesce into huge, forbidding forms that often eschew conventional structures in favor of the inevitable unfoldings of vast mechanical systems."

“…The emotional power of Frost's music comes precisely from the stark contrast between extremely basic musical material and the deadly virtual instruments he invents to perform it… This is Arvo Pärt as arranged by Trent Reznor” – Wire Magazine, 2007"

"Tim Hecker is a Canadian-based musician and sound artist, born in Vancouver. Since 1996, he has produced a range of audio works for Kranky, Alien8, Mille Plateaux, Room40, Force Inc, Staalplaat, and Fat Cat. His works have been described as "structured ambient", "tectonic color plates" and "cathedral electronic music". More to the point, he has focused on exploring the intersection of noise, dissonance and melody, fostering an approach to songcraft which is both physical and emotive. The New York Times has described his work as "foreboding, abstract pieces in which static and sub-bass rumbles open up around slow moving notes and chords, like fissures in the earth waiting to swallow them whole". His Harmony in Ultraviolet received critical acclaim, including being recognized by Pitchfork as a top recording of 2006. Radio Amor was also recognized as a key recording of 2003 by Wire magazine. His work has also included commissions for contemporary dance, sound-art installations, minimal techo works under the name 'Jetone', as well as various writings. Tim has presented his work in a live setting around the world, including performances at Sonar (Barcelona), Mutek (Montreal), Primavera Sound (Barcelona), Victoriaville (Quebec), Vancouver New Music Festival (Vancouver), and Transmediale (Berlin). He currently resides in Montreal."

Thrill Jockey Benefit for the Recovery in Japan

"Benefit for the Recovery in Japan is a compilation album dedicated to the victims and survivors, their families, and the aid workers courageously struggling to deal with the aftermath of the earthquake, resulting tsunami, and nuclear emergency that occurred on March 11th, 2011 in Japan. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this compilation will go directly towards the recovery and relief effort. The album features the contributions of sixty-four artists from around the world and clocks in at nearly five hours of music.

As the crisis continues to unfold and the full scope of the disaster becomes even more apparent, our sisters and brothers in Japan face many challenges: both the immediate needs—provisions for food, water, shelter, and healthcare—as well as the long term recovery and rebuilding efforts in the impacted communities. The ripple effects of the earthquake and resulting tsunami will be felt for years to come. Benefit for the Recovery in Japan was created with the goal of providing immediate and tangible aid in the relief, recovery, and rebuilding that will take place over the coming days, months, and years.

The people of Japan need your help now, and your purchase of this music is one way to connect with and provide assistance to the people in Japan working to recover from this disaster. 100% of the proceeds from your purchase of this release will go to the Japanese emergency response organization Civic Force—thereby helping support real work happening on the ground by Japanese-based relief workers.

Benefit for the Recovery in Japan is curated by Antiopic's David Daniell and James Elliott, with invaluable assistance from Regina Greene (Front Porch Productions), Greg Davis, and Bettina Richards (Thrill Jockey). Greg Davis mastered the compilation and Sadek Bazaraa designed the cover art. This release is made possible by the generosity of Thrill Jockey and all of the artists involved."

The Ghosts by Eddie O'Keefe

"Girls, Boys, Rock 'n' Roll, Sex, Guns, Leather, Summer, Humidity, Suburbia."

I found out about Eddie O’Keefe short "The Ghosts" on the same day i discovered the awesome Elmhurst/Chicago band The Orweels, Eddie's younger brother Matt O'Keefe is on the band ... very talented, young and creative family.
I saw the trailer and ever since i've been dying to watch the full version and i can tell you that i've enjoyed it immensely and even felt nostalgic and wanted to be a ghost, it gives the sensation of almost a dreamlike dark world where the spirits run free and tragedy in waiting at the front door singing a sweet old lullaby, with Ghosts you can't help remembering Marlon Brando's "The Wild One".
Go watch it you gonna lovit fo shu !!!!

Crystal Stilts - In Love With Oblivion

Brooklyn's Garagers Crystal Stilts return with a new album, "In Love with Oblivion" is the follow up from the 2008 critically acclaimed debut "Alight Of Night", the new LP is out on April 12th via Slumberland.

"In Love with Oblivion" is most definitely a Lo-Fi 60th garage psychedelic influenced album and not at all a dream pop album as people been tagging it around.

Lundberg Loses It

"The idea behind this shortflick was to give the viewer some surreal insight into the mind of professional downhill sk8ter Erik Lundberg. He starts his day by waking up in Encinitas California. After a nutritious breakfast he begins a journey on his bike in search of a sick hill where he can be free and lose himself by sk8ting it before the sun sets. While biking to this hill he daydreams about the time he lost his balance at 70mph from a crack in the road in Brazil, along with losing the final race to Mischo Erban in the US Nationals."

Best Indie movie Ever !!!! cast, scrip, photographie, soundtrack ... all freaking amazing.

"Sundance festival favourite - Six New Yorkers juggle love, friendship, and the keenly challenging specter of adulthood. Sam Wexler is a struggling writer who's having a particularly bad day. When a young boy gets separated from his family on the subway, Sam makes the questionable decision to bring the child back to his apartment and thus begins a rewarding, yet complicated, friendship. Sam's life revolves around his friends-Annie, whose self-image keeps her from commitment; Charlie and Mary Catherine, a couple whose possible move to Los Angeles tests their relationship; and Mississippi, a cabaret singer who catches Sam's eye."

Julia Kent – Green and Grey

The wonderful Canadian born and New York based cellist Julia Kent as released a new album, Green and Grey is a stunning piece of looped cello, field recordings, and electronics

Green and Grey is the follow up from the wonderful solo debut "Delay". Delay was about traveling and the hours Julia spend in between airports, Green and Grey expresses the link between the natural world and the human-created world.

One of my favorite albums of 2011 and Higly Recomended to all fans of Modern Classical and layered Cello.

"I was born 1981 in Vänersborg in Sweden and I grew up in Trollhättan. I moved away from home at 16. After that I spent most of my time in London, and at the moment I live between London and Paris. And i go back to Sweden as often as i can. I think I work best when I keep moving around."

"I wanted to start sooner but my parents thought I would break the camera so I had to wait until they decided I was old enough and bought one for me. So I started on my 10th birthday, in my home, taking pictures of the cake and my feet and my best friend sitting on the toilet. Pretty much the same thing I do now " Lina Scheynius

Graham Franciose

"I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a very artistic and creative family, and credit them with my decision to pursue art as a career. When I was in college getting my BFA in illustration I was trained in photo-realism; however, after noticing that everyone's work looked very similar I decided to veer off and find a style of my own. Growing up skateboarding, I was always influenced by "low-brow" and "street" artists who really inspired me to do something different." Graham Franciose
